This will start on Monday 16th October 2023 when migration notices will begin to be issued to those people only receiving working and/or child tax credits. People who receive a migration notice should act within the timeframe.
Once a claim to UC has been made, tax credits will cease and UC should be paid approximately 5 weeks after making the claim.
It is important to note that you do not need to act UNLESS you receive a Migration Notice letter inviting you to do so.
Moving to UC before receiving such a notice means that you will not receive ‘transitional protection’ with your claim.
From 16 October 2023, people who get Tax Credits and no other benefit in Northern Ireland will receive a letter about the Move to Universal Credit.
If you get this letter, from the Department for Communities, known as a Migration Notice letter, you must claim Universal Credit to continue receiving financial support.
