Radius Housing’s Knock Eden Care home wins Residential Home of the Year
Press release - 27th September 2019
Radius Housing has held a celebration to mark the achievements of Knock Eden Supported Housing Scheme in Portadown. The scheme, which is home to 16 tenants, was awarded the Residential Care Home of the Year at the 2019 Staff Nursing Awards and Naomi Harrison, the scheme chef, was the winner of the ‘Ancillary Care Worker of the Year’ award.
Knock Eden is a supported-living scheme for people with complex learning difficulties with many tenants placed in Knockeden through the resettlement programme from long term institutional care. The staff at Knock Eden provide specialised care for the tenants, supporting them to live in their own apartments and to play an active role in the community. To mark the incredible achievement of the home and the recognition of Naomi’s work by the sector, Radius held a celebratory event in Knock Eden for staff, tenants and their families.
Speaking at the event, Fiona McAnsepie, Director of Care and Support at Radius Housing, said “We are delighted that Knock Eden has been recognised as the Residential Care Home of the Year. We are very proud of the incredible work that the whole team at Knock Eden do for the tenants, and the wonderful community spirit that the home has. I know that right across the sector there is wide recognition of the high standards of care provided by Knock Eden and this award is very well deserved.
“At Radius we want all tenants to feel that we are providing them with a home, giving them the space to live independently but with the knowledge that any support they need is there. It is the standard of care at places like Knock Eden that makes them stand out I would like to thank our colleagues in the NIHE and SHSCT for their support in making this scheme the success that it is.”
Hilary Irwin, Care Services Manager for Radius Housing, added “The hard work of the staff in all our residential care homes is something we are very proud of at Radius. We are particularly delighted that the work of Naomi Harrison, as the cook at Knock Eden, has been recognised by the Staff Nursing Awards. She is someone who is dedicated to her work and is loved by staff and tenants. People like Naomi help make Knock Eden a warm, friendly environment for tenants.”
