Tenant Forums & Scheme Awards 2015

31 Mar 2015

Our annual Tenant Forums which were held this past week in the Glenavon House Hotel, Cookstown for our schemes in the North West  and West,  and the Beechlawn Hotel, Belfast for our Schemes in Greater Belfast, the South and East.

We had two fantastic days themed around Health and Wellbeing. Over 350 residents and staff gathered to hear guest speakers from Cancer Focus and Folds Corporate Charity, the Alzheimers Society.

John McLean, Folds Chief Executive addressed packed audiences at both events.  He said, ''Fold performed well in the past year in terms of housing management and development performance. We were amongst the highest performing larger associations in void and income management.  And our development team achieved the largest number of new starts in the Northern Ireland Social Housing Development Programme.''

''We were particularly pleased with the engagement and support of tenants through our Tenant Focus Groups.  Tenants are having a say in how we can enhance our service offering.''

He added, ''We are pleased to report that the finances of your associations are being managed effectively and safely in these challenging economic times.''

He concluded,''We were pleased to see energy and fuel supply companies confirm price reductions.  However the medium to long term trend in pricing is upwards. Fold is therefore considering the rollout of Solar PV Panels across all sheltered and supported housing sites where renewable generation is proven to be viable. Should we proceed, all tenants will benefit from the pooled savings."

Our Director of Housing, Eileen Patterson, gave a lively presentation on the many benefits of growing older and at our North West event two residents, Irene Peartree and Isabel McAuley, shared their personal stories about how they came to live independently in Fold accommodation.

At the Belfast event we were given a wonderful performance from tenants at Deans Crook Fold, Belfast, along with children from Strandtown Primary School whom,  together, had taken part in a National Museum NI programme ˜Let''s Make an Opera''''. They concluded with an action song which involved audience participation.

Both events finished with lunch and a chance to relax and have a good chat and catch up with residents and staff from across Northern Ireland....trips were being tipped and outings organised and holidays highlighted!
We announced the winners of Folds Scheme Awards, or as we like to call them Folds ˜Oscars''''. Judging this year was, again, very difficult due to the high standard of entries from Schemes across Northern Ireland. The Awards were presented by Fold Board members Jill England MBE and David Crothers.  Congratulations to all Winners, Runners Up and Highly Commended awardees.
