International Big Breakfast event celebrates the cultural richness of Dungannon and surrounding area.
People from across Dungannon were today served a range of delicious breakfasts from around the world at Radius Housing’s first International Big Breakfast in conjunction with the Department for Communities, The Executive Office, the Housing Executive, Mid-Ulster District Council and the PSNI.
The event, which took place at The Junction, was delivered as part of the Carland Road shared housing scheme’s five-year Good Relations Plan. The event celebrated the cultural diversity in the Dungannon area, and those attending started their weekend with tasty breakfast bites from India, China, Poland and Portugal, as well as some more traditional fare including sodas and the famous Ulster fry.
After breakfast, guests were able to work off their meal with dancing workshops, and for those who didn’t want to take to the dance floor there was Chinese dragon-making, mask-making, henna tattoos and a range of other international cultural activities.
Grainne Mullin, Community Investment Manager, at Radius Housing, said:
“Dungannon has a long history of welcoming people from across the globe to live and work here. Today’s event celebrates the cultural diversity of the area and the truly international community in the town and across Mid-Ulster.I’m delighted to see so many people involved today from across the Dungannon area. Radius Housing provides social and affordable homes for families right across Northern Ireland, and we are committed to supporting the communities where we work. Today’s event is the first of its kind and we hope it becomes another way to celebrate the truly international diversity of this area.”
Geraldine Dougan, who led today’s event, said:
“Today was an opportunity for the community to experience the music, dance, food and art from a range of different cultures and countries. It was an opportunity to sample something new and learn about other countries and traditions in a friendly and fun atmosphere. We aim to build on this event in the future.”
