Fold Housing Association has demonstrated its commitment to the North West of Northern Ireland by purchasing and opening a new office close to the centre of Derry-Londonderry.
Fold has experienced major growth in the North West during the last ten years, with staff levels increasing from three to sixteen, and stock levels reaching new highs. The acquisition and work completed on this New Regional Office is part of a long term strategy which will benefit the North West. The building has undergone extensive interior and exterior renovations and provides Fold with an enhanced presence at the heart of the local community.
The team based here will be responsible for the housing management and maintenance of all our current and planned developments in the North West area. The North West team is now based in this excellent location which is within a close catchment area of Folds large general family housing schemes at Skeoge Road and Rossnagalliagh.
Speaking at the opening of the new office, Diana Fitzsimons, Chair, said, ''We currently have 1475 units in the North West which include sheltered accommodation for independent older people in Derry-Londonderry, Strabane, Omagh, Magherafelt, Castlederg and Limavady (to name but a few) and accommodation for families and singles in Derry-Londonderry at Skeoge Road, Rossnagalliagh and Eglinton and in other locations including Limavady and Omagh.
Additional new build schemes are planned for Derry-Londonderry, Coleraine, Ballycastle and Portstewart areas. Our current design and build scheme for 70 properties at Skeoge is the final phase in our development in this area and will bring the number of properties provided here to 350. This is much needed social housing in an area of high housing stress and provides apartments, houses and bungalows for families with complex needs.
The total investment over all phases for the 350 properties at Skeoge will be over £39 million. Fold is now one of the main social landlords in this area and we are committed to continued growth and expansion in this area.
We have plans to build on the services already available to our tenants and to everyone in the community, including the planned expansion into Causeway and Mid Ulster of our award winning Floating Support Service for Older People. This is delivering a valuable service directly to our clients in their own homes and is helping them to maintain their independence and with the added security of a 24 hour Fold TeleCare community alarm and response service.
Diana concluded, We do ask our tenants what is important to them and then we listen to what they say. Our tenants are telling us that having the right accommodation to suit their needs and the needs of their family makes a real positive difference. Fold are proud to be able to meet the needs of our tenants and the communities they live in through the delivery of high quality homes like those that are so clearly evident in Derry-Londonderry.
We wish our colleagues in the North West Regional Office all the best in their new workspace. You can contact the team at: Fold Housing Association, North West Regional Office 7 Racecourse Road, Derry-Londonderry, BT48 7RB Tel: 028 9039 7165/66
