Malton Fold Float of Hope for Macmillan

The team at Malton Fold, Malton Drive, Taughmonagh raised a fantastic £2036 at their recent fundraiser in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, Fold Housing Associatio''s corporate charity.

Pauline Irwin, Scheme Coordinator said, "We have been planning our ˜Float of Hope'''' event since February this year and I''m delighted that all our hard work paid off. The residents were all very keen when we first talked about the idea and they all played a big part in making the day a success “ including Elizabeth Glenn who had her hair shaved off!

Float of Hope was our theme for the day as the main event was a balloon release. We asked people to purchase a balloon in hope or memory of a loved one and were overwhelmed with the response.  It was beautiful to see all the Macmillan balloons float off into the stunning blue sky knowing that each one represented someone.

She added, ''The event ran from 1pm to 4pm and was greatly supported by the local community and in particular Taughmonagh Youth Club who provided music and a DJ. It was great to see the young people and the older people all working together. It was naturally intergenerational!''''

''''We had a packed schedule which included a BBQ, crafts, loom bands, cake and bric a brac stall, guess the weight of the cake and an amazing 34 prizes to give out  Our hearts melted when the signed Linfield shirt was won by a local child who is a dedicated supporter his face was priceless!''''

We want to thank all the local shops in Finaghy who kindly donated them, Hovis donated the baps for the BBQ and Jeffers bakery donated the ˜guess the weight of the cake. We were delighted with the amount of money we raised for Macmillan. The residents counted the money, then they counted it again, and again thinking they had made a mistake! Finally they took it to the bank which confirmed the final figure of £2036.

Macmillan Cancer Support is Fold Housing Association''s chosen charity. We will be supporting the Biggest Ever Coffee Morning on 26 September.
