This project will transform a run down and neglected alleyway located behind houses in Avoca Street, North Belfast
Fiona McAuley, Community Empowerment Worker with Radius Housing has been working with Janice Beggs, Centre Manager (& local resident) at LOCA.
The project, working with Lower Oldpark residents association, local residents, Springvale Training and Impact Training to deliver an Alleyway Project which includes creating raised beds and window boxes, community clean up and planting day plus the installation of Welcome signage in various languages.
Impact Training are located on the Shankill Road and Springvale Training on located on the other side of the community on the Springfield Road making this a great cross-community project.
Trainees at both Impact and Springvale Training have build items for the project.
Impact Training have built x30 window boxes for residents in area.

Springvale Training – have provided x3 raised beds built by trainees – to be on site next Wednesday 16 June 21.
Radius paid for materials, Impact Training and Springvale Training provided labour for making the planters.

A ‘Clean and Green’ day will bring tenants and trainees from Impact and Springvale Training together to clean up the alley and plant up window boxes
Refreshments will be provided.
Radius Housing has paid for materials for window boxes and raised beds and for soil and bedding plants, plus refreshments for ‘Clean and Green’ day.
This is the first stage of a bigger environmental programme for LOCA
The group are also purchasing a container (which Radius has donated funding towards to purchase) to use as an outdoor classroom.
This will be located beside the alleyway on a large green space. It will be used by local groups and residents including the Children’s Nursery based in LOCA building.
