Clara’s Charm brings Christmas Cheer

Newry girl Clara Doran designs Radius Housing corporate Christmas Card

Customers and clients of leading housing provider, Radius Housing will receive festive wishes designed by local schoolgirl, Clara Doran. The P7 pupil from Windsor Hill Primary School won the ‘My Hopes for Christmas 2020’ competition, which called on children from all classes to create Christmas images which reflected their favourite festive feelings. As the overall winner Clara’s design will adorn Radius’ corporate Christmas card.

The ‘My Hopes for Christmas 2020’ competition is part of Radius’ community outreach at Rockmount Close Newry, which is a shared housing development. Radius works with a number of the local primary and post primary schools on a range of educational outreach activities as part of the Department for Communities ‘Housing for All’ Shared Housing Programme which promotes shared housing and good relations.

The new homes at Rockmount Close on the Belfast Road were completed in November, with residents moving in over recent weeks, which was marked by a community Christmas lights switch-on to welcome the new families.

The ‘My Hopes for Christmas 2020’ competition saw children from every year group at Windsor Hill Primary School get creative, with a wide range of seasonal designs. Alongside selecting Clara’s design, Radius also selected prize winners and runner-ups for Key Stage 1 and 2:

KS1 Winner: C Ferris P2

KS1 Runner up: Ella McAlpine P3/4

KS2 Winner: Tillie Wilson P6

KS2 Runner up: Emily Crawley P6

Speaking as she presented the prizes to the winners, Radius Regeneration Manager, Bronagh O’Kane said “We were thrilled by the quality of art work presented by the pupils of Windsor Hill Primary School, who have remained so positive in their outlook for Christmas 2020 despite the challenges of this year. We are delighted to be working with the school, on a range of initiatives supported by the ‘Housing For All’ Programme. Clara’s winning design will now take pride of place on the Radius Housing Christmas card, where it will bring a smile to many people over the festive period.”
